Plant Deficiencies
Nitrogen Deficiency
Magnesium Deficiency
Potassium Deficiency
Phosphorus Deficiency
Iron Deficiency
Symptoms:
Yellowing of leaves throughout the plant, slow growth with smaller leaves than normal (see image below)
Treatment:
Feed with Urea
Symptoms:
Lower leaves are affected in the first instance, turning a yellow colour starting out at the edges and moving inwards. Lower leaves die off earlier than necessary.
Treatment:
Can be corrected with Epsom Sales / Magnesium Sulphate in early Spring.
Symptoms:
Yellow - brown speckling / streaking of the overall leaf, which eventually removes all pigmentation to the point of necrosis. Can occur in wet / sandy soil.
Treatment:
Feed with a Potassium rich fertiliser
Symptoms:
Can cause growth to be slow, foliage can be light olive - green, sometimes yellow. Usually when planted in poor soils.
Treatment:
Using Superphosphate to correct the imbalance. When regularly using a general fertiliser containing NPK's this deficiency is unlikely to occur.
Symptoms:
Palms lacking in iron will first be affected in the newest growth with yellowing between the veins in patches.
Treatment:
Application of Iron Chelates or Sulphate of Iron will improve this condition.
